PowerHousing Australia welcomes HAFF Round 2 target of up to 5,000 new social homes

PowerHousing Australia welcomes the announcement of the second round of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF). This round has allocated funding for up to 5,000 expedited new social homes, a critical step toward easing the housing crisis that continues to affect everyone in Australia.

Unlike HAFF Round 1, Round 2 is open exclusively to State and Territory Government submissions. This approach provides an opportunity for State and Territory Governments to work collaboratively with Community Housing Providers to efficiently deliver high-quality, sustainable, and community-focused homes.

PowerHousing Australia Director of Policy & Strategy, Alex Raphael, stated: “Dedicated funding for social housing is a crucial piece of the housing jigsaw in Australia.

“Community Housing Providers are ready to collaborate with state and territories to get more Australians in homes that are safe and affordable. By working together, we can lay the foundation for a future where social and affordable housing represents 1 in 10 of all homes in Australia.”

PowerHousing Australia also welcomes the announcement that Round 3 of the Housing Australia Future fund will be open to community housing providers and be launched mid-next year after robust consultation with the sector. Community Housing Providers applaud the expedited timelines for HAFF Rounds 2 and 3.

“Community housing providers are ready to build on the strong results of the first round of the Housing Australia Future Fund and build tens of thousands more homes.

“A fair housing system where everyone has access to a secure home is only possible with abundant social and affordable housing and the Housing Australia Future Fund is making great strides in creating the pipeline of houses we need,” said Alex Raphael.
