PowerHousing Australia welcomes the announcement of the first round of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF) which represents a significant step forward in addressing the nation’s urgent housing crisis.
“This is an important milestone in the efforts to meet the social and affordable housing needs in Australia and we congratulate the Labour Government and Housing Australia on the announcement. It is exciting to see new homes can now commence in response to Round 1 and a further commitment to implement Round 2 early next year.” said Michelle Gegenhuber, CEO of PowerHousing Australia.
Creating a long-term pipeline of social and affordable housing supply is fundamental to a sustainable and affordable housing market for all Australians. The 13,700 homes, including 9,522 affordable homes and 4,200 social homes, funded through Round 1 will help ease the current shortfall in social and affordable housing. This will also ensure that vulnerable communities, where 1,267 homes will be allocated for women and children fleeing domestic violences and older women, receive much needed new housing supply.
“Community Housing Providers (CHPs) play a vital role in delivering these homes and ensuring they are tailored to the needs of the community. Through partnerships with state governments and private developers, CHPs are uniquely positioned to maximise the impact of the HAFF and create sustainable housing solutions for those who need it most,” added Gegenhuber.
PowerHousing Australia looks forward to continuing its partnership with the government and the private sector to ensure the successful delivery of homes across Australia. We stand ready to support and grow this historic initiative that will reshape Australia’s housing landscape for future generations.
